Bobby Bowden

Update: Obviously, I didn’t watch the second half. Still, FSU’s record is 3-4 and that’s a hard thing to believe I just typed.

I don’t want anyone to think I don’t have respect for everything that Bobby Bowden has done, but watching UNC take it to FSU I just don’t see a team anything close to the great teams Bobby used to field. I don’t see the kind of rebirth that happened up at Penn St. for Joe Paterno. Maybe that’s more a matter of the competition than anything else. Who knows? The one thing I know is that the sooner FSU starts over, the sooner they can get back to being a national power.

It’s a sad thing to say because you know that the same thing that happened to Bear Bryant could happen here. If you don’t know, Bryant died a couple months after he retired. Without that reason to get up every day, life can lose it’s reason.

But I wrote and recorded it. So I either owe him an apology, or nothing at all.

Lyrics:

Maybe you’re too far gone to know when you should hang it up.
Maybe your wife’s not the best PR guy when you’re down on your luck.

They keep you on the outside of the huddle til they’re done.
And someone’s gotta pay for ever hiring your son.

Maybe you’re eyes are shut too much too know what’s going on.
Maybe you just can’t see what’s wrong with losing every other one.

If being #4 sounds pretty good from where you stand.
Well Bob that’s just the state you’re in and why you’re losing fans.

Don’t hold on to the game. There’s a breakfast buffet with your name (on it). And there’s more time to spend with your sons. And memories of being number one.
